11 stays

Exclusive use

The rule

Every stay whose official website says the whole property can be booked for a private event or a group. A stay that says nothing about exclusive use is not included.

The short version

11 stays in The Puglia Edit say on their official websites that the whole property can be reserved: palazzi in Lecce, Otranto, Gagliano del Capo and Salve, masserie near Ostuni, Fasano, Oria, Andria and Altamura, and boutique hotels near Fasano and in Martina Franca. Eight also say they host weddings. Capacity, minimum stay and price are set case by case, so ask each property.

In the properties' own words

The line from each property's official site that puts it in this collection, quoted as published, often in Italian.

How do you choose a stay for exclusive use?

Decide first between a town and the countryside. The palazzi stand in towns: Palazzo Luce in Lecce, Hotel Palazzo Papaleo in Otranto and Palazzo Daniele in Gagliano del Capo, in the Capo di Leuca. Relais Carlo Alberto in Salve, a fully restored palazzo with four rooms, stands in the village and offers the whole building.

Outside the towns, Masseria Calderisi near Fasano is a boutique hotel on an estate of eight hectares with olive groves, and Casale del Murgese in Savelletri di Fasano is a baronial farm with 31 rooms and two suites. Masseria San Paolo Grande is near Ostuni, and Relais Villa San Martino in Martina Franca is a boutique hotel with 21 rooms and a spa, whose gardens can host a civil ceremony.

Inland, Masseria Palombara near Oria has 20 rooms reserved for adults, a spa and a chapel for the ceremony. Biomasseria Lama di Luna at Andria is an organic farm of 210 hectares beside the Alta Murgia National Park. It takes weddings on reservation of the entire farmhouse for two consecutive nights, and I Luoghi di Pitti near Altamura hosts one wedding a day.

Palazzo Luce, Palazzo Daniele and Relais Carlo Alberto offer the whole property but do not say they host weddings. Ask before you plan one there.

What should you ask before you commit?

Ask how many guests can sleep on site and how many can attend the event, because the two numbers can differ. Ask also about the minimum number of nights and the months when exclusive use is possible. Find out whether the restaurant and spa are included or charged apart.

For a wedding, also ask whether the ceremony can take place on the property and which suppliers you may bring. Five of the eleven say a ceremony can be held on site. The wedding enquiry form collects these details in one place, and an editor replies personally.

Questions travelers ask

What does exclusive use of a masseria mean?

Exclusive use means you reserve the whole property, so no other guests stay there during your event. In The Puglia Edit, 11 stays say on their official websites that they offer it. Terms such as minimum nights and capacity are agreed directly with each property.

Which stays in Puglia can be booked whole?

Eleven stays state on their official websites that the whole property can be booked. Two are near Fasano (Masseria Calderisi and Casale del Murgese), two in the Alta Murgia (Biomasseria Lama di Luna and I Luoghi di Pitti), two near Leuca (Palazzo Daniele and Relais Carlo Alberto), and one each in Lecce, Otranto, Ostuni, Oria and the Valle d'Itria.

Is exclusive use only for weddings?

The stays in this collection describe exclusive use for private events and groups in general, not only for weddings. Palazzo Daniele, for example, mentions couples, families and groups, and Relais Villa San Martino lists family gatherings and holistic retreats. Ask each property which kinds of event it accepts and in which months.

How many guests can stay with exclusive use?

Sleeping capacity follows the rooms. Relais Carlo Alberto has four rooms, I Luoghi di Pitti ten, Hotel Palazzo Papaleo lists nine, Masseria Palombara 20, Masseria Calderisi 24, and Relais Villa San Martino 21 rooms for up to 42 guests. Masseria Calderisi offers exclusive use for up to 120 guests at an event.
